Conversations About Race
Some may find it difficult or uncomfortable to talk about race, but why does it seem this way? While it may come down to understanding the history or developing a common language to use, having conversations about race should be something we are not afraid of.
In this episode, April discusses the internalized conceptions we have about race, where they come from, and what we can do to alter or reframe them. Although we may not believe in the conceptions that have been passed down from generations, they are still ingrained in us, and it is up to us to educate ourselves in order to deviate from them.

Networking Through Service
The people we surround ourselves with can have a huge impact on our lives. In building our own personal networks, we open ourselves up to new opportunities we may not even be aware of yet and develop a valuable asset that can never be taken away from us.
In this episode, Nate Peo discusses the importance of having real personal connections in our network. In putting ourselves out there more and delving outside of comfort zones, we can develop diverse connections that broaden our worldviews and create positive outcomes.
Continually building these relationships and thinking of ways to serve others will benefit us in the long run because we never know who will play what part in our lives.

What makes a great leader?
I asked, “Are we all capable of being leaders?”
She said, “… From what I’ve experienced, I’d have to say, ‘yes and no’ … ‘Yes’ because we definitely have the potential to be good leaders, all of us, no matter where we’re born or who our families are … or our circumstances are … we have that ability … and when I say ‘leaders’ … it has nothing to do with positions (within organizations) … or our titles … or where we are in our lives … I also say, ‘no’ because not all people have this drive to be who they exactly are and using their potential … when you have so many self-limiting beliefs that make you feel, ‘not worthy, not deserving’ … that hinders you from being the type of leader you can be …”

Are you living a story that’s true to who you are?
She said, “… In order to live a life of authenticity, it begins with who you really are … On the surface level … identity is … my name ... who I am … where I am from … what I am good at … Those things are all part of the package in identity, but what I think ends up happening often when we dissect what identity is, is we get swept into a job or a cycle of some kind, and we may be using some of our gifts and talents or we may not be, but we’re kind of stuck in the busyness of all of that … Deeper meaning of authentic identity is really who you want to become … It’s your being …”
How often do you take a step back and reflect on the type of person you have become or striving to become?
She continued by saying, “… I had been teaching at a school for twenty years and for a transitional time I was no longer at the school … What I realized was, teaching was what I was doing, but who I was being was an encourager … It was being a mentor to people … My life coaching business allows me to really BE that same person I was as a teacher even though I am not in those same walls again …”
